Spring Newsletter 2017

19 Feb 2017

We would like to thank you all for your support so far throughout this scholastic year, as we enter term 4 we will be wishing Tara, our Deputy Supervisor, well as she begins her maternity leave in March. We all await the exciting news of her new arrival and will keep you posted on how she is doing. We are happy to announce that Lesley Robbins will be our new Deputy Supervisor whilst Tara is on Maternity leave, along with our existing Deputy, Kristen Door. We are also pleased to announce that Louise Glenie will also be joining our staff team during this time. We look forward to welcoming Tara back soon 

We have vacancies for a new Chairperson and Secretary on our committee, if this is something that may be of interest to you, please make staff aware or contact Sally via Email on [email protected] . Our committee is vital to the running of our preschool, we have been very lucky this year to have filled these roles with people who have successfully managed to fundraise for us. More details on this to follow……..PLEASE do let us know if you are interested in either of the upcoming positions.

Over the coming year the Chapel Lane Pre - School Committee will be running a number of fundraising events in order to raise money for new toys and equipment for the children. Previous monies raised have allowed us to purchase new bikes for the garden; new waterproofs for all weather out-door play and a new selection of books. We will provide details of upcoming events via email and flyers in the children's book bags so please look out for these.
Did you know that whenever you buy anything online - from your weekly shop to your annual holiday - you could be raising a free donation for Chapel Lane Pre School? There are nearly 3,000 retailers including Amazon, John Lewis, Aviva, thetrainline and Sainsbury's, who will donate a percentage of the amount you spend to Chapel Lane Pre School to say thank you for shopping with them.
It's really simple, and doesn't cost you anything.
All you have to do is:
1. Go to http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/chapellanepretonbridge
2. Sign up for free
3. Get shopping - your donations will be collected by easyfundraising and automatically sent to Chapel Lane Pre School. It couldn't be easier!
There are no catches or hidden charges and Chapel Lane Pre School - Tonbridge will be really grateful for your donations.

As some of you are already aware, we now have a Facebook page, please add/like us if you have Facebook. Our admins – Kristen, Louise, Tara, Lesley will post regularly on there with updates on what’s coming up and things that staff or children have achieved throughout the term, we value your support so please like and share us 

If you need to contact us, please call the school phone 07929 074083, email on [email protected] or speak to any member of staff.  Our staff ARE NOT allowed contact via private messages on any social networking site, i.e. Facebook, even if you already know staff prior to joining the pre-school - please avoid using this as a method of contact regarding pre-school queries as we are not able to respond.

With the upcoming changes in the law to booster seats, please have a read through on the government website to ensure your children are being transported safely.

Unfortunately, we do have to make you aware that it is our duty of care to your child to make the authorities aware if we see your child being transported without a car seat, we will also NOT LET YOUR CHILD leave our care if we are made aware that they are being transported without the appropriate or NO car seat in place.

If your child is poorly or unable to come to pre-school, please can you call the pre-school after 8.45am and leave a message with your name and relationship to the child, the time, date and the reason why your child is unable to come.

Please remember that if your child is sick or had diarrhoea they should not return to pre-school for 48 hours after the last episode of illness. This prevents the sickness being spread to others.

We believe that children settle best when they have a key person to relate to, who knows them and their parents well, who can meet their individual needs.  Research shows that a key person approach benefits the child, the parents, the staff and the setting by providing secure relationships in which children can thrive, parents have confidence, staff are committed and the setting is happy and a dedicated place to attend.

Your child has been allocated a key person, this person will be responsible for your child’s development records, sharing information, and will work with you to plan and deliver a personalised plan for your child’s well-being, care and learning.

Sometimes it is not always possible for the key person to be present on all of your child's days for example when attending training courses. We therefore also operate a buddy system where another member of staff will act as key person on those days.

Your child has been given a contact book, for you and us to write in.  On the front of this book, will be your key-worker’s name and also a key-person list is on the door near the entrance inside the pre-school.

At the start of the year we asked for each child to bring in a family photograph 6x4 if possible, we have only had a couple brought in, the children have made frames for them and we would really like to display them so that families are included within our Chapel Lane family. We are happy to print the photo off for you if you email them to the usual address.

Please can you ensure that we have up to date contact information, e.g. change in phone numbers, authorised people who will be collecting your child, etc. This avoids a delay in case of emergency and any delay/awkward moments over collecting children; we will not let your child leave our care unless we have been authorised to allow collection by a friend or family member. If someone else is collecting your child, please write it in the register in the morning or telephone us at least fifteen minutes before pick up time.

If your child stays for lunch with us please make sure they have a clearly labelled lunch bag/box. Please avoid putting anything with nut content into their lunch for allergy purposes; this includes chocolate spread. We ask that all children bring a well-balanced lunch, please follow this link for ideas on healthy lunchboxes.

Snack time at pre-school is a really social activity; the children enjoy sharing their favourite foods and talking about their busy lives. We welcome all healthy contributions from home; they really help us to keep the costs down each week so that we can spend more on much needed equipment for the children. Please do not bring in KIWI fruit for snack as we have been advised that one of our children has a severe kiwi allergy, thank you 

Every week we offer the opportunity for parents/carers to stay and play in session time. The children love this and parents that have stayed have commented how useful it is to see their children at Pre-school it can provide comfort in knowing they are settled and that their friendships are growing and evolving. Please come and stay and play for a session if you are able to, this gives a much more in depth insight into how your children learn while they are with us.

We have the luxury of having an all-weather garden; this means that whatever the weather the children are offered the opportunity for outdoor play.

On colder days, please provide a warm coat, wellington boots, scarf, hat, gloves and a full set of spare clothes, including underwear.

During the warmer months please ensure your child comes to pre-school with a sun hat (legionnaires style, to cover the back of the neck), lightweight waterproof coat and a change of clothes. We will apply sunscreen twice a day unless you tell us otherwise. We use the Lloyds Pharmacy own brand children’s sunscreen. Please let us know if your child has any known allergies to this.

Please can you ensure that all items of clothing are fully named as it is very hard to return them to the rightful owner if not.
