Our Summer term is going to be a busy one! We have lots to look forward to….our Sports Day, Summer Outing and Staplehurst Carnival to name a few. Our garden is looking super healthy, our planting has paid off and there is lots of greenery to show for it…we have been successful at growing Parsley, Thyme, Potatoes, Beans and our new shrubs are growing nicely too!

A BIG THANK YOU!! We have been overwhelmed with the amazing contributions to our snack times so far this term…this really helps us to keep the costs down and focus money on purchasing new equipment for the children, thank you so much to everyone that has donated snack items.

We have been visited by the teachers from schools in preparation for our older children transitioning to big school in September. We were also lucky enough to have a visit from the local PCSO, Mira, who read the children a story and stayed and played for the morning.

Our Rising Fives have been enjoying lots of rhyming, story times, number rhymes and mark making of all sorts!

We will be harvesting our fruits in the garden, watching caterpillars grow and change, making some exciting Olympic themed things for our Sports Day event and visits to the big school will also be taking place this term.

We are really excited to announce that we will be introducing new uniform and updating our logo in September 2016. Order forms and prices will be available shortly for the uniform, we hope to have some examples on display for the carnival in June. However the children are welcome to still wear existing uniform or their own clothing from September too.

There are still a few spaces available for next year, however they do fill up quickly throughout the Summer Holidays. If you would like your child to do more sessions next year, or know of anyone who is thinking of applying for their child; please do this sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment. We will be offering Wednesday afternoons as an additional session from September.

Hopefully we will be having some lovely warmer weather this term. Please can you ensure that your child has clothing that keeps their shoulders covered, our garden is a real sun trap in the afternoons especially and although we apply sun cream it is safer to keep shoulders covered up too. If possible please avoid sending the children to Pre-School in open toed sandals, they regularly use the didicars and bikes, these can be very painful when driven accidentally over bare toes! We use Lloyds own brand suncream, please let us know if your child has any known allergies to suncream.

Our Sports Day will be on 27th June at Staplehurst Cricket Club, approximate times will be 1pm-2pm with some light refreshments and a medal presentation afterwards. More details to follow shortly.

PIRATE/PRINCESS WEEK – Monday 11th July – Friday 15th July 2016.

We will be having lots of fun pirate/princess activities throughout the last full week of term, the children are welcome to come to Pre-School dressed up if they would like to.

We believe that children settle best when they have a key person to relate to, who knows them and their parents well, who can meet their individual needs. Research shows that a key person approach benefits the child, the parents, the staff and the setting by providing secure relationships in which children can thrive, parents have confidence, staff are committed and the setting is happy and a dedicated place to attend.

Your child has been allocated a key person, this person will be responsible for your child’s development records, sharing information, and will work with you to plan and deliver a personalised plan for your child’s well-being, care and learning.

Sometimes it is not always possible for the key person to be present on all of your child's days for example when attending training courses. We therefore also operate a buddy system where another member of staff will act as key person on those days.

Please can you ensure that we have up to date contact information, e.g. change in phone numbers, authorised people who will be collecting your child, etc. This avoids a delay in case of emergency and any delay/awkward moments over collecting children; we will not let your child leave our care unless we have been authorised to allow collection by a friend or family member. If someone else is collecting your child please write it in the register in the morning or telephone us at least fifteen minutes before pick up time, this lessens the upset for your child.

If your child is poorly or unable to come to pre-school, please can you call the pre-school after 8.45am and leave a message with the time, date and the reason why your child is unable to come.

Please remember that if your child is sick or had diarrhoea they should not return to pre-school for 48 hours after the last episode of illness. This prevents the sickness being spread to others. Please also note that your child should not return to pre-school for 48 hours from the start of taking any antibiotics.

If your child stays for lunch with us please make sure they have a clearly labelled lunch bag/box. Please avoid putting anything with a nut content into their lunch for allergy purposes; this includes chocolate spread. We ask that all children bring a well balanced lunch, please follow this link for ideas on healthy lunch boxes.

Our policies do not allow any staff members to be contactable in a Pre-School capacity via social networking e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

Committee Member Recruitment

As we near the end of the year we will be saying good bye to a number of committee members as their children move onto 'big school'. We are actively seeking new members to join the committee so that the Pre-School can continue to be as successful as it currently is. There is no obligation to attend every meeting but we do ask that you show your support for the Pre-School by joining the committee. If you would like to be more involved and would be interested in a specific role on the committee then we are currently looking for a new secretary and chairperson to take over September.
